Styles of Reading Glasses

Taking Shape
Designer reading glasses come in round, octagon, rectangular, and oval shapes. Faces come in oval, oblong, round, heart, square, and diamond shapes. As a rule, the shape of reading glasses should not be the same as the shape of the face. Reading glass frames that curve and have asymmetrical lines can soften angled faces. Round faces without angles need narrow, angular, rectangular reading glasses in dark colors to reduce fullness. Faces that are wide at the top need reading glasses that are wider at the bottom, and lighter in color. Try low bridges to minimize nose sizes; the idea is to complement your best features and soften the harsh features.

Spotlighting Color
Womens reading glasses come in a plethora of colors and designs. If you like prints, stripes, dots, or rhinestones, there are selections of plastic reading glasses to express your flair and love for the unusual. Bifocal reading glasses should not be selected strictly for your color preference. As a rule, eyeglass color should complement skin tones: warm colors for warm skin tones, and cool colors for cool skin tones. Reading glass colors can also be selected according to warm and cool hair colors. Sometimes the warm and cool rule applies to eye color, but this match is more difficult because eye colors vary so much.

A Material Thing
Folding reading glasses are available in plastic and metal frames. There are full frames or half frames, full-rim, semi-rim, and rimless reading glasses. Plastic frames offer the boldest colors and designs. These frames are strong, but tend to lose color after a long period of time. Metal frames commonly boast gold and silver tones, but color accents at the temples and earpieces are common as well. Some metal frames contain nickel, copper, and iron; although durable, these metal reading glasses can cause problems for anyone allergic to nickel and copper. Stainless steel and titanium frames are resilient, lightweight, and made from hypoallergenic materials that will never discolor. Titanium produces brilliant colors when heated, and is unrivaled when it comes to strength.
